Shooting Like Her Idol

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. – She shares the last name with her NBA idol Stephen Curry, and for a night, she was shooting like him, too.

Oreyana Curry knocked down 9-of-10 shots from the field – including all five of her shots from 3-point range – en route to a career-high 27 points as Albion College coasted to a 89-57 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Adrian College inside the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center.

"She's capable of (shooting like that)," Albion Head Coach Doreen Carden said. "I tell the kids to walk big and have some confidence. She did that today. She played within herself. She didn't do anything too fancy and she shot great."

It seemed like Curry's teammates couldn't miss, either. The Britons shot a season-best 57 percent (26-of-46) from the field and 50 percent (6-of-12) from 3-point range. Darian Payne (21 points and 13 rebounds) and Erin Nelson (14 points and 10 rebounds) achieved double-doubles and Catie Neary chipped in with 13 points. Olivia Savage and Tierra Orban produced seven points apiece.

"We played with a ton of confidence and enthusiasm," Carden said. "The bench was really short (as the Britons played without Mikaela Bromley and Tori Henning), but the kids stepped up. I'm really proud of them.

"It makes the game a lot easier when shots are falling," she added.

Albion's shooting roll started when it made five in a row as part of a 14-3 run. Curry hit a pair of 3-point shots and a layup and Nelson tacked on a layup and a pair of free throws. The Britons had charged out to a 20-9 lead on Orban's layup with 12 ½ minutes left in the first half.

Albion maintained the double-digit lead most of the night. The Britons went on a 11-3 run over the first six minutes of the second half to extend the margin to 20, 56-36.

Albion (12-10 overall, 6-8 MIAA) travels to Kalamazoo College Saturday for its final MIAA road game of the season.
