GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Getting points from every part of the team (sprints, hurdles, distance running, jumps and throws), Albion College walked away from the Aquinas College Little Meet with more points than its three competitors.
Albion produced 136 points to finish ahead of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals Alma College (129) and Calvin College (108). Aquinas was third with 113 points.
Richard Annorat, the first-year student-athlete who was named the MIAA's Field Athlete of the Week after his performance at Anderson last Saturday, picked up where he left off with first place finishes in the high jump (6' 7") and 60-meter hurdles (8.68 seconds) and a third place performance in the triple jump (42').
Justin Meredith, the senior who was the MIAA's Ttack Athlete of the Week in the wake of the Anderson meet, sprinted to victory in the 60 meters (7.03 seconds) and was second in the 200 (23.29 seconds).
Also winning events for Albion were Jon Haadsma in the 3,000 meters (9:27.14) and Jephte Jean-Claude in the triple jump (43' 3 ¾").
Also setting individual personal-best performances were Robert Petersen in the 200 metyer (24.38 seconds), while Radouane Ziani (53.04 seconds) and Nick Bertoia (53.37seconds) did the same in the 400 meters.
Andrew Strzelecki threw 1.15m farther than last week in setting a new personal record of 13.65 meters in the weight throw and 12.70 meters in shot put.
The jump events were just as exciting as Cole Davis set a personal record in the long jump (5.93 meters).
Albion sent some of its distance runners to Allendale for a meet at Grand Valley State University. Mitch Clinton set a personal record of 15:26 in the 5,000 meters.
