ANGOLA, Ind. – Justin Meredith sprinted to event championships in the 60 and 200 meters and first-year athletes Richard Annorat and Jephte Jean-Claude took first place in their respective field events as Albion College finished third as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association sponsored an indoor track & field championship meet for the first time.
"The team had a great overall performance," Albion Head Coach Lance Coleman said. "They answered the challenge I raised at the beginning of the season which was to improve from last year's performance."
Meredith, a senior who prepped at Groves High School, reached the finish line in 6.96 in the 60 and 22.34 (a personal best) in the 200.
Annorat, from Naples, Fla., cleared the high jump at 6' 4" to edge teammate Zachary Osborne for first place. Osborne also cleared 6' 4" for a personal best, but he missed the first attempt at the height.
Annorat produced 21 points on the day, adding a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.61 seconds and a sixth-place finish in the triple jump at 42' 1 ½".
Jean-Claude, from Traverse City, Mich., sailed 43' 7 ¼" to win the triple jump and he added a run of 9.61 for sixth place in the 60 hurdles.
Chris Bratt, a first-year athlete from Warren, Mich., was third in the 400 meters (51.59) and he joined Nick Bertoia, Radouane Ziani and Brant McCollum in a fourth-place run in the 4x400 relay.
Mitch Clinton, a senior from Plymouth, Mich., ran a controlled race to finish third in the 3,000 meters (8.55.47). He finished 13 hundredths of a second behind Calvin College's Jordan Kramer who finished second.
Albion also picked up points from eighth place finishes by Alex Dermody (5,000 meters), Andrew Strzelecki (shot put), and Ryan Watson (800 meters).
Overall, 20 personal records were set in the meet.
