DELAWARE, Ohio – Sprinter Justin Meredith took first place in the 200-meter dash and second in the 100, and Nick Bertoia and Jephte Jean-Claude placed second in their respective events to lead the Albion College men's track & field team in the Marv Frye Invitational.
Albion was one of four teams to collect more than 100 points in the meet. Ohio Wesleyan University was first with 191 points, followed by Heidelberg University (129 ½), Case Western Reserve University (104) and Albion (103).
Meredith achieved a time of 22.01 in the 200, just two hundredths of a second off the season-best time he achieved in Birmingham, Ala., in March. His 10.85 in the 100 was just a hundredth off his season-best time and second only to Todd Frickey of Division II Hillsdale College who reached the finish in 10.63.
Bertoia launched the javelin 153' 7", a season-best, and teammate Jeremy Shephard was fourth with a throw of 150' 7".
Jean-Claude continues to build an impressive resume in his first season at the collegiate level, achieving season best performances in the triple jump (finishing second at 43' 3") and 110-meter hurdles (finishing third in 15.57 seconds).
Another first-year student-athlete, Richard Annorat, cleared 6' 5 ¼" in the high jump to finish third and ran 16.38 in the 110 hurdles to finish eighth.
Also for the Britons, Andrew Strzelecki finished fifth in the shot put (40' 2"), Christopher Bratt finished sixth in the 110 hurdles (16.05), Mitchell Clinton finished sixth in the 5,000 meters (15:42.78), Colin Howard finished seventh in the 1,500 meters (4:10.44), and Zachary Osbourne finished seventh in the high jump with a personal record of 6' 3 ¼".
In the distance races, Jon Haadsma finished the 5,000 meters with a 30-second personal best with a time of 16:41:63. Zane Brooks also acheieved a personal best with a time of 17:17:15.
Albion is scheduled to travel to Adrian on Saturday for the Don Kleinow Invitational.
