Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Cait Gaitley scored six goals, dished out two assists, caused two turnovers and scooped five ground balls to power Albion College to a 19-7 non-league women's lacrosse victory over Augustana College at the Davis Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.
Gaitley scored three times in the first 9 ½ minutes as Albion jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never looked back.
Jade Barrett chipped in with three goals and Darcy Muns added two goals and an assist as Albion led 11-2 at halftime.
In the second half, Muns produced two more goals and Barrett had another as they each had four on the day. Muns was also credited with two assists.
Shannon Kahl scored twice in the second half to finish the day with three goals and an assist.
Despite yielding seven goals, the Albion defense was solid. Augustana committed 25 turnovers. Ariella Ruiz consistently stepped in front of Augustana passes, causing four turnovers. Taylor Nelson also caused four turnovers, with Jordan Church and Lauren Wiegand causing three apiece.
"I'm proud of our seniors for leading today, particularly Lauren and Jessica Mooney," head coach Shanta Loecker said. "Both were consistent and consistency is the ultimate goal right now.
"Our focus today was on confidence, composure and controlling what we can," Loecker added. "Give credit to Augustana for making adjustments in the second half."
Albion, 3-2 overall, continues non-league action at home Wednesday night against Ohio Northern University. The draw is set for 7 p.m. at the Davis Athletic Complex.
