Albion sweeps first MIAA doubleheader of the season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ALBION, Mich. – Kellan Huang celebrated a couple of firsts in his young Albion College baseball career Saturday afternoon.

The first-year second baseman/pitcher who prepped at Saline High School delivered his first walk-off hit to lift the Britons to a 7-6 victory over Olivet College in the first game of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning as Albion edged Olivet, 13-10, in the nightcap to pick up his first save.

For the day, Huang hit .556 (5-for-9) with a double, two runs batted in. He scored four runs.

Huang wasn't Albion's best hitter on the 38-degree day. That honor went to first-year left fielder Andrew Arszulowicz who hit .800 (4-for-5) with a double and six RBI.

Catcher Jordyn Finney (4-for-7 with a double, two RBI and three runs) and first baseman James Spilko (3-for-7 with two RBI and three runs) also hit .429 or better for the Britons in the two games.

Game One

Arszulowicz's two-run double and sacrifice fly powered Albion to a 5-2 lead in the sixth.

Olivet rallied for four runs in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead.

Finney hit a two-out single to push Riley Stesiak across the plate with the tying run and Huang followed with a single to right field to send Jack Wyman home with the winning run.

Jon Hubanks got the final out of the seventh inning to pick up his first collegiate victory on the mound.

Wyman started on the mound. He yielded six runs on 11 hits and a walk over 6 2/3 innings.

Game Two

Olivet scored seven runs in the eighth as Albion's 11-3 lead melted to a single run.

Matt Bur came off the bench with an infield single that drove in two runs in the bottom half of the inning and Huang pitched a scoreless ninth.

Scott Grant pitched into the eighth to get the win. He yielded five runs on 11 hits and a walk.

On Deck

The teams will complete the four-game series with a 1 o'clock Sunday doubleheader at Olivet.
