Britons roll while playing for greater cause

Box Score

ALBION, Mich. – It's not about us.

Albion College was on a mission Saturday, playing for those in the fight against pancreatic cancer and the alumni who laid the foundation for the women's lacrosse program.

Despite persistent rain and gusty wind that made for a raw early spring afternoon, the Britons responded with one of their most complete performances of the season – a 20-1 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Trine University.

Darcy Muns scored seven times and Jade Barrett scored five – and both dished out an assist – to lead the offense. Barrett also controlled the draw 11 times.

Goalkeeper Jenina Villabroza collected seven saves and she received help from the defense that caused 10 turnovers. Taylor Nelson was credited causing three turnovers and scooping nine ground balls. Nelson was rewarded by getting involved in the offense late in the game, producing her first two goals of the season.

Ariella Ruiz and Makenzie Smit collected three ground balls apiece.

Albion, now 5-3 on the season, travels to Adrian College on Tuesday for its next MIAA contest.
