HOLLAND, Mich. – Cait Gaitley scored five goals in the first half as Albion College jumped out to a 7-2 halftime lead and went on to a 10-7 victory over Hope College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Albion, winners of four in a row to improve to 10-4 overall and 6-1 against MIAA rivals, can secure the No. 2 seed for the league tournament with a victory over Saint Mary's College at home on Friday.

Gaitley was efficient, scoring on five of the six shots she placed on goal. She was credited with eight shots for the contest.

Gailtley, a senior who prepped at Grosse Pointe South, now has 195 points for her Albion career, leaving her 16 shy of Ashley Glenn's (2012-15) Albion all-time record.

Carly Pieri and Erin Caton scored two goals each as Hope forged a 7-7 tie midway through the second half.

Albion responded with goals by Darcy Muns, Carly Schwarz and Lauren Wiegand.

While the offense gets its share of attention, the defense has held the last four opponents to seven goals or less.

Jordan Church was the leader, causing four turnovers and scooping two ground balls.

"Jordan kept us confident and conserved energy well, allowing her to keep our pressure up while Hope had possession," Albion Coach Shanta Loecker said.

Shannon Kahl, Jessica Mooney, Taylor Nelson and Wiegand were credited with two caused turnovers each.
