ANGOLA, Ind. – Mitch Shedlowsky threw a two-hit shutout with a career-high 11 strikeouts and he received support in the form of Jack Wyman's two-run homerun and Kellan Huang's two-run double as Albion College prevented Trine University for earning a place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Baseball Tournament with a 4-0 victory in the first game of a doubleheader at Jannen Field.

Albion had to settle for a split on Sunday, losing the nightcap, 5-2.

Game One

Riley Stesiak collected two hits and scored twice. He doubled to center field in the first inning and scored on Wyman's homerun to right field.

Wyman, a senior from Bloomfield Hills who received his commission as a second lieutenant in the Army yesterday, hit his sixth homerun of the season. He finishes his Albion career with 58 extra-base hits (including 16 homeruns) and 97 runs batted in.

Stesiak kept the fifth inning alive with an infield single with two out. He and Joe Turnbull scored on Huang's double down the left field line.

Meanwhile, Shedlowsky didn't allow Trine to have many scoring chances. He retired the first six batters in order, getting three strikeouts. Zach Schulte hit a leadoff single in the third, but he never got past second base as Shedlowsky got Chase Hall and Colton Conn to strikeout. Jacob Heller hit a one out double in the fifth, but he was thrown out at third to end the inning.

Shedlowsky retired the last six batters in order, including striking out the side in the seventh, to finish his second complete game shutout of the season.

Game Two

Trine got five runs off Albion starting pitcher James Spilko in the first inning. Stephen Sieczkowski delivered the big blow with a two-run single after Spilko had struck out Nick Ricci and Chris Frantz to get two out in the inning.

Sieczkowski finished the game with three hits for the Thunder. Cale Hall, Heller and Kevin O'Malley finished with two hits each.

Albion scored its runs in the fourth. Huang and Matt Bur hit back-to-back doubles with one out. Bur came around to score when Drew Olszewski reached base on an error.

Reliever Scott Grant gave Albion an opportunity to come back, throwing 6.2 shutout innings. He scattered five hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

For the season

Stesiak finished the season with 52 hits and 11 doubles, moving him into sixth place on Albion's single-season lists in both categories.
