GAME ONE: Albion 7 Trine 0
A five-run third boosted the Britons to the game one win. Haddlesey led off the bottom of the first with an opposite field single and came around to score on a two-bagger off the bat of Olszewski. After moving to third with two outs, Olszewski scored on a wild pitch to give the Britons a 2-0 lead after one.
The big third inning started when Justin Charron ripped a single to center, driving in Olszewski who singled earlier in the frame. Charron and Huang both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Freshman Matt McGann drove in the pair with a single up the middle, building the lead to 5-0.
With two away, Zac Gray doubled down the left field line, putting two runners in scoring position again for the Britons. Gabe Mata and Patrick Merolla each added run-scoring singles, giving the hosts a commanding 7-0 lead after three.
Haddlesey led Albion with three hits in the game. Olszewski, Huang and Gray all added multi-hit games.
Sophomore Kevin Korte (2-5) went the distance, allowing just three hits in the contest. He struck out four in the shutout.
GAME TWO: Albion 8 Trine 5
Trine got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first for a quick 2-0 lead. Albion evened the game in the bottom of the second with two runs off two hits and one Thunder error. McGann singled to lead off the inning and Mata worked a two out walk. With runners at the corners, Mata went to steal second, but the catcher's throw went into centerfield, allowing McGann to score and cut the deficit in half. Merolla smoked a single to left, plating Mata and tying the game at two.
The Thunder regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning, thanks to two unearned runs. Trine held a 4-2 lead after four innings.
Albion broke through in the bottom of the fifth, striking for three runs to put themselves back on top. Merolla worked a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a groundout. Olszewski smacked a single to center, driving home Merolla to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Huang followed with a single and Charron drew a walk to load the bases for McGann. The freshman tapped it right back to the pitcher, but the throw home was wild, allowing Olszewski to score and knot the game at four. Two batters later, Ben Coble's bases loaded walk gave Albion a one run lead.
The Britons added three insurance runs in the sixth. Back to back singles from Merolla and Haddlesey and an Olszewski walk loaded the bases for Huang. The senior delivered a two-run single through the 5-6 hole for a 7-4 advantage. Later in the inning, McGann reached on an error, allowing Olszewski to cross and cap off the scoring.
Trine scored once in the seventh, but it would not be enough as the Brits held on for the conference sweep.
Teddy Hirschfield (3-1) earned the win in relief. He went three innings, allowing one run -- unearned -- while scattering three hits.
Albion improves to 10-16 overall, 6-10 in the MIAA.
The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow in Indiana. Game times are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
