Box Score ALBION -- If you enjoy exciting volleyball, this certainly was the match for you.
The Albion College volleyball team erased 1-0 and 2-1 deficits, en route to a thrilling five set win over Alma College. Albion attacked at a .321 clip on the evening, helping them improve to 4-1 overall.
KEY STATS
Junior Chloe Webber was unstoppable in her career night. Webber finished with a game and career-high 24 kills, eight total blocks and attacked at a .513 percentage. Kate Winter also registered double-digit kills with 16.
Playing six rotations, freshman Kaylynne Nicholson contributed 14 kills and 13 digs. Ava Smith tallied a game and career-high 16 digs, as libero Jenna Khoury had 14 in the win.
Grace VanDorn and Mariah Brenz dished out the offense for the Brits. VanDorn had 35 assists in the match. Brenz added 23 assists and five kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In a back and forth first set, Alma gritted out the win late in the set. Knotted at 18, the Scots went on a 4-0 run to distance themselves from the Brits. Albion worked to cut the deficit to one, but three straight Alma points pushed the visitors to a 25-21 win.
Albion got off to a hot start in the second set, but an early lead evaporated. Another tight set saw the Britons clinging to a 21-20 lead. Kills from Nicholson and Webber put Albion with two points of the win. Following an Alma attack error, the Brits secured the win when Webber and Shelby Palmer recorded a block for a 25-23 win.
With the third consecutive tight set in action, the Scots edged out the hosts by a 25-23 margin.
Attacking at a .375 percentage in the set, the Britons cruised to a 25-16 win in the fourth set. With the Scots hitting in the negatives, Albion took advantage of the errors and kept the momentum rolling. A block by Nicholson and Jesse Hepner gave the Brits the win and forced a decisive fifth set.
With Kameron Haley back to serve, Albion scored four straight points, including a service ace by the senior. Albion eventually led 13-6, but the Scots clawed back to make it a two point game. Holding to a 14-12 lead, Palmer sent the Britons home victorious with her fifth kill of the night.

"This was a great all-around match," said head coach Kristin Slamer-de St. Aubin. "I'm so proud of our team for coming together and playing a gritty five set match … Alma is a great team and they are extremely hard to defend."
