Track and field men and women win MIAA Triangular

ALBION – In dominant fashion, the Albion College track and field team competed in a MIAA Triangular on Friday afternoon. As the host school, the Britons showed up, winning numerous events and putting together a solid afternoon of competition. 

Both teams placed first in the Triangular. The men's team scored 222 points as the women followed suit with 213.50.

Mason Darden and Eddie Hines dominated the throwing events, going 1-2 in the hammer throw. Darden won the event with a throw of 53.07m as Hines was second with a mark of 48.18m. Jonas Manning (40.15m) and Connor Dewan (39.80m) were fourth and fifth. 

The lethal combination of Hines, Darden and Dewan went 1-2-3 in the shot put. Hines won the event, while Darden and Dewan followed. 

In the women's hammer throw, Albion also went 1-2, thanks to Tess Anthony and Ashley Booth. Anthony's throw of 42.07m was good for first, as Booth was just behind with a mark of 37.85m. Skye Dickson and Leilani Castelle finished fifth and sixth. 

Anthony continued her success by winning the shot put with a throw of 11.60m. 

Anthony and Daniah Beavers were second and third in discus for the Britons. On the men's side, Hines was second and Dewan took third. 

Omar Gordon Jr. handily won the long jump with a mark of 6.96m. Chuckie King's jump of 6.17m was good for fifth place.

On the women's side, Lauren McDowell (5.25m) and Peyton Smith (4.98) were first and second, respectively. Senior Becca Ross placed fourth with a jump of 4.80m.

Sophomore Brayden Stavros won the pole vault, clearing 3.80m. Sarah Stone took third on the women's side, clearing 2.66m.

Albion took the top four spots in the men's triple jump, with Ronnie Puczkowski (13.45m) winning the event. Behind him was Henry Wehrly (12.72m), Najee Smith (12.11m) and King (11.86m).

Peyton Smith won the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.36m, as Lindsey Walicki placed third (8.45m).

Wehrly later went on to win the high jump, clearing 1.83m. Larry Reed Jr. placed third in the event. On the women's side, Daniah Beavers took third, clearing 1.45m. 

Elizabeth Storey was third in the javelin with a toss of 25.68m.

In the running events, Matthew Record and Noah Flint started the day taking second and third in the 3000m steeplechase. 

In an exciting finish, Cullen Cox lifted the 4x400 relay team to the win with a time of 3:27.82. Joining Cox on the squad was KingDavid Adedapo, Brayden Stavros and Chuckie King

The 4x100 team of Puczkowski, Will Davis, Gordon Jr. and DaMario Chapman won, clocking a 42.02. The women's team also turned in a victory with a time of 49.51. Albion's team was composed of Nayaisha Alexander-Edmond, McDowell, Colette Askins and Avery Campbell

With a PR time of 4:32.73, Ikenna Achara placed second in the mile. Houston Bowen Jr. was fifth for the Britons. On the women's side, Megan McCulloch won with a 5:12.19, as Samantha Bieth ran a 5:21.78 – good for second place. 

KingDavid Adedapo won the 110m hurdles, clocking in at 16.47. The sophomore also won the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.08. Alexander-Edmond won the women's 100m hurdles, coming in at 15.20. Askins – running in the event for the first time in a year – was third with a 16.69.

Cullen Cox (50.90) and King (51.95) went 2-3 in the 400m dash. For the women, Campbell was the runner-up, crossing in 58.37.

Chapman won the 100m dash with a time of 10.96 as Davis placed third (11.10). McDowell won the women's event with a race of 13.30.

In the 800m run, Juan Lopez took fourth, clocking in at 2:10.49. Freshman Bianca Wiegerink placed fourth on the women's side with a time of 2:38.06.

Askins and Anna Loew took third and sixth overall in the 400m hurdles. 

In the 200m dash, Chapman and Davis were third and fourth with times of 22.37 and 22.68. Campbell won the women's 200m with a time of 25.77.

Sophomores Fatima Cruz and Olivia DeGraaf were the top two finishers in the women's 5K. Israel Aquino placed fourth in the 5K for the men. 

Albion will head to Indiana State University for a three day event, commencing Apr. 13.
