Box Score 2 BLUFFTON, Ohio – Scoring a 6-4 victory in game one and holding a 5-2 lead in the middle of the fifth in game two, Albion College was in good position to sweep its non-league doubleheader from Bluffton University. Albion had to settle for the split as Bluffton rallied for two in the fifth and 11 in the sixth to hand Albion a 15-5 setback.
The split leaves Albion at 3-7 at it prepares to begin its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association slate with a March 24 twinbill at Kalamazoo College.
Mike Schypinski (Sterling Heights/De La Salle) gained his second victory of the season on the mound as he threw a complete game in game one. His line was four runs on 10 hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
Albion staked Schypinski to a 3-0 lead as Eric Shimmel (Warren/Cousino) and B.J. Konkle (Marshall) produced RBI singles in the first and Adam Mazza (Macomb/Dakota) brought a run to the plate with a sacrifice fly in the second. Konkle supplied Albion's only hit of the fifth but it drove in Chuck DeClarke (Holt/Lansing Catholic Central) who was hit by a pitch and Shimmel who reached base on an error.
Albion tacked on an insurance run in the seventh as Ben Gould (Alpena) hit into a fielder's choice which allowed Mazza to score.
Gould slugged a double and a homerun and Konkle collected two more singles in game two. Konkle finished the day 4-for-8 at the plate and Shimmel and Chad Gromek (Lansing/Lansing Catholic Central) added three hits apiece.
