Box Score 2 OLIVET, Mich. – Albion College rallied in both games and it was rewarded by sweeping its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader from Olivet College.
Game one starting pitcher Mike Schypinski (Sterling Heights/De La Salle) struck out seven, but he was trailing 2-1 after three innings. Dan Mills (Northville) and Chad Gromek (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) produced back-to-back RBI doubles, and Davin Montgomery (Novi/Northville) followed with a RBI single in the fourth to boost Albion to the lead. Adam Mazza (Macomb/Dakota) added a two-run triple in the fifth.
Schypinski improved to 5-2 on the year. His final line included two runs on six hits and a walk.
Kyle Cassidy (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) fell behind by a run twice in game two, but Mills picked him up in the sixth with a two-run double. Cassidy did not allow an earned run in improving to 4-1. Cassidy yielded seven hits and struck out five.
Mills wore out the Olivet pitchers with three hits. He also walked and was hit by pitch to finish the day with a .833 on base percentage. Montgomery, John Gignac (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Central), and Eric Shimmel (Warren/Cousino) all collected three hits on the day.
