ALBION, Mich. – Albion College remains tied for fourth place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball standings after splitting a doubleheader with Olivet College at Frank Joranko Field.

The two games couldn't have been more different as Mike Schypinski pitched a gem in the Britons' 6-1 game one victory and game two starting pitcher Kyle Cassidy recorded just one out before departing with an apparent arm injury as Albion lost game two, 15-2. The split leaves Albion and Trine with 8-6 records in league play. Hope College, Albion's next four-game series, sits atop the standings at 10-4, followed by Adrian College and Calvin College at 9-5.

Schypinski improved to 5-0 by scattering five hits and three walks in an 10-7-pitch effort. Olivet's fourth inning run was unearned.

Albion gave Schypinski all the support he would need in the third as Adam Mazza laced a RBI single to center and Michael Fischbach drew a bases loaded walk. Fischbach added a RBI single in the fifth and he would later score as Albion pulled off a double steal. Mazza drove in two more runs with a sixth-inning single.

Fischbach went 2-for-4 with two walks in the doubleheader.

Davin Montgomery produced Albion's only RBI of game two with a first-inning single to push Brendan Diamond across the plate.

Kyle Kowal joined Fischbach with a .500 batting average on the day with two hits. Mazza and Montgomery finished with three hits apiece.

Albion and Olivet will complete the four-game series with a 1 p.m. Sunday doubleheader at the Cutler Athletic Complex. Craig COnway and Ross Hall are the likely starting pitchers for Albion.
