Chuck Aldrich said his first season of competition on the track started slowly, but the advice of coach Morley Fraser changed the trajectory of his career.

“About halfway through that short season I took a page out of Morley’s play book,” Aldrich wrote. “I did not think about what my times were and just tried to have fun.”

Elkin Isaac and Dave Egnatuk succeeded Fraser as coach, and Aldrich achieved a distinguished career that included MIAA track championships in the mile run in 1974 and 1975. Chuck’s 1974 championship was described in the newspaper as a mild surprise as he shaved six seconds off his personal best time to finish 15 yards ahead of the runner-up.

Chuck’s success carried over to the cross country program where he was selected as the Britons most improved runner in 1972, most valuable runner in 1973 and he shared the captaincy of the 1974 team.
