Michael Thomas was a member of MIAA champion men’s basketball teams in 2003 and 2005, but the signature moment in his career was the three-quarter court heave that went in as time expired lifting Albion to an 80-79 victory over John Carroll in a NCAA Championship sectional round game at Kresge Gymnasium.

A three-time all-MIAA first team pick, Michael averaged 14.1 points and nearly three rebounds per game as the Britons achieved a 31-7 record against league rivals from 2003-05.

Michael continues to stand among Albion’s statistical leaders, ranking second all-time with 1,389 points and third with 168 three-point field goals made.

Michael went on to a successful run as the varsity boys’ basketball coach at Kalamazoo Central High School, where he led the Little Giants to a pair of Michigan High School Athletic Association state championships. He returned to Albion in 2012 as the assistant men’s basketball coach.
