Larry Downs was the leading scorer for the 1964-65 men’s basketball team that still holds the school record for the highest scoring average in a season.

Boosted by shooting 49 percent from the field, Larry averaged nearly 18 ½ points in the 20 games that season. He achieved all-MIAA first team status, finishing seventh in the league in scoring, 12^th in field goal percentage and 15^th in rebounds.

A co-captain of the 1964-65 team, Larry remembers it as a cohesive group that scored victories over Calvin and Hope during the first round of league play.

A four-year starter for the Britons, Larry was captained the men’s basketball team for the 1965-66 season.
