A three-sport letterwinner, Bob Friberg was a member of the 1952MIAA Champion football team. The following year Bob was chosen forthe all-league football team. All-MIAA in basketball in 1953-54,this versatile athlete also played on the Briton baseball teamwhere he was named All-MIAA with a .361 average in conference playin 1953. He was also an all-league baseball selection in 1954.

Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1956. to 1958 and then beganhis career in education at Byron Center High School. In 1961, Bobmoved on to a position at East Kentwood High School where he heldthe position of varsity basketball coach for five years and varsityfootball coach for 22 years along with his teachingresponsibilities. The recipient of a master's degree from WesternMichigan University, Bob currently serves as the assistant to theathletic director and coordinator of K-12 physical education atEast Kentwood.

As a member of the Michigan High School Football CoachesAssociation, he was named Regional Coach-of-the-Year in 1973, 1978,1980, 1981, and 19187. On April 20, 1985, he was elected to theMichigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. TheMichigan High School Coaches Association later named Bob the ClassA Football Coach-of-the-Year in 1987.
