Denise Routhier says she entered Albion unsure if she would be able to compete in college athletics, but her experience as a diver and track athlete were the highlight of her college experience.
She gained all-MIAA distinction as a two-time league champion in the triple jump, leaping 34’ ½” in 1998 and 35’ 4 ½” in 1989. In fact, the distance she achieved in winning the league title in 1999 was the school record at the time and still places her third in school history today.
Denise also finished as the MIAA’s runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles in 1999, achieving a time of 1:06.24 that still stands as the school record. She also holds the school record with the 4x400 relay team from 1999.
She was also a member of the 4x100 relay team that held the school record.
A national qualifier in diving in 1997, Denise finished third in the league’s 1- and 3-meter competitions in 1998.
Denise was recognized for her accomplishments by being named the track team’s Rookie of the Year in 1996, MVP in 1998 and 1999 and team captain in 1999. She was Albion’s diving MVP in 1996 and 1999, as well as the Most Improved Diver in 1997 and recipient of the Coaches Award in 1998.
