Ruth Tupper Washburn participated in both field hockey andtennis all of her four years at Albion and was the number onesingles player on the women's tennis team. She was also treasurerand president of the Women's Athletic Association (WAA). Not onlywas she a leader in women's sports, but she excelled academicallyas well. Washburn graduated from Albion summa cum laude.

Following her graduation, Ruth completed a master's degree atBryn Mawr College. She was a social worker in Ann Arbor andChicago, and a psycometrician for 11 years in Flossmoor,Illinois.

Involvement as a vice president or president in the AmericanField Service, Great Decisions, League of Women Voters, ParentTeacher's Association and the church guild have kept Washburn busyin community activities.

Currently, she and her husband work on their tree farm inWayland and are active in the Michigan Forest Association and theAudubon Club.
