Marshall was an outstanding center on the 1911, 1912 and 1913football teams, and was selected as an All-MIAA performer in1913.

After graduation, Marshall began a most illustrious career inthe Methodist Church. After earning a B.D. degree in 1916 fromGarrett Biblical Institute and an M.A. from Northwestern in 1917,he was ordained into the ministry. During the following 30 years,Marshall served as pastor at five Michigan churches, with the last14 years at Nardin Park in Detroit (now Farmington Hills). In 1948,Marshall was elected bishop of the Michigan Area, a post he helduntil 1964.

During his career, Marshall received honorary degrees fromAlbion College, Garrett Biblical Institute, Northwestern Universityand Adrian College, and also was a charter member of Albion's PhiBeta Kappa chapter, formed in 1940. He was a member of the Board ofTrustees of both Albion College and Northwestern University. In1962, he was elected president of the Council of Bishops, thechurch's highest elective office.

Marshall passed away March 1, 1973.
