Erik Scollon’s swimming records didn’t come as asurprise. After all, the times he established at Rochester AdamsHigh School were already faster than Albion’s school and poolstandards. Erik, a four-time All-MIAA performer, still holds theschool marks in the 200- and 400-yard individual medley events. Healso held records in the 200 backstroke and five relay events whenhe graduated.

On the national level, Erik helped Albion finish among the top30 teams in the 1993 and 1994 NCAA Division III championships. Heachieved All-America status with a sixth-place finish in the 400 IMand honorable mention status in the 200 IM in 1993, and he joinedthe 800 freestyle relay team that finished fifteenth in 1994. Hegained honorable mention All-America awards with a ninth-placeperformance in the 400 IMA and a fourteenth-place finish in the 200IM in 1992.

Erik graduated cum laude, and he jumped into coaching as thehead coach at East Grand Rapids High School and as the assistantcoach at Miami (Ohio) University. He moved to California in 2001and earned graduate degrees from the California College of the Artsin 2008. Erik currently serves as director of the Berkeley ArtStudio and as a lecturer with the California College of theArts.

Erik and his partner, Steven Czekala, reside in Oakland,Calif.
