Steve Cohen enjoyed a successful career in the pool and overcamea serious shoulder injury he suffered in high school with the helpand support of Coach Keith Havens and his teammates.

Steve made an immediate splash by breaking a school record inhis first race at Albion. He went on to hold school records in fiveindividual and two relay events upon retiring from competition in1992.

A two-time recipient of the team’s most valuable swimmeraward, Steve went on to win the MIAA title, finish third in theNCAA Division III championships, and obtain All-America status inthe 1,650 freestyle in 1991. He received honorable mentionAll-America honors in the same event in 1992. He achieved All-MIAAstatus in 1991 and 1992.

Steve also achieved all-academic status from the CollegeSwimming Coaches Association of America in 1992.

Inspired to make a difference in communities after taking MyronLevine’s urban policy course, Steve completed hisbachelor’s degree at Michigan State University in 1994. Heearned his master’s degree in urban and regional planningfrom MSU in 1999.

Currently the director of community development for the city ofAuburn Hills, Steve is actively involved in church activities andAuburn Hills Optimist Club. Steve and his wife, Sarah, reside inLinden with children Abigail and Casey.
