John Dunlop has a special place in MIAA track and fieldhistory as one of just three men to earn the league’s mostvaluable performer award three times in his career. He claimed theMIAA’s top award in 1987, 1988, and 1989. John won MIAAtitles in the 400-meter hurdles and long jump in 1987 and 1988, andwas the runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles in 1986 and 1987, and inthe javelin in 1988.

On the national scene, John was a six-time qualifier forthe NCAA Division III Championships. He achieved All-America statuswhen he placed fifth in the decathlon in the 1988 NCAAmeet.

John held school records in the 110-meter hurdles, the400-meter hurdles, and the decathlon upon his graduation. He alsoheld the MIAA mark in the 400-meter hurdles.

In addition to his athletic feats in the spring, John wasa member of the football team and the Alpha Tau Omega fraternityduring his days on Albion’s campus.

John holds a master’s degree from Western MichiganUniversity and continues to be close to athletics, as he has servedas the athletic director and as a physical education teacher atPortage Central Middle School since 2003. John and his wife,Heather, are the parents of two children, Ethan andAbigail.
