Jo Dunn earned a bachelor's degree in physical education fromOberlin College in 1920. She taught on the secondary school andcollege levels for several years and then in 1929 received amaster's degree from Columbia University. That same year Jo joinedthe faculty at Albion College as the director of women's physicaleducation and began 33 years of magnificent service.

While at Albion, Jo was instrumental in forming the Women'sMichigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which later wascombined with the MIAA to form a single league structure. She wasalso an advocate and participant in the Athletic RecreationalFederation of College Women, and helped to establish and promotethe Michigan division of that group. Jo was not only deeplyinvolved herself, but her students were active participants,enabling Albion College to be thrust into the forefront of women'sathletics throughout Michigan and the entire country. The Jo DunnOutstanding Archer Award was given in her honor from 1962 to 1981for sportsmanship and marksmanship on the range.

Jo was also extremely involved with the Camp Fire Girls while atAlbion. During her 25 years of service in Albion she trained manycounselors and leaders and was a representative to many regionalconferences. Jo passed away on July 28, 1967.
